02.01.2024
Stainless steel has many uses in a medical setting. Because of its sustainable properties, it has become the standard in many industries; including hospitals, surgical settings & medical practices.
In this blog, we will discuss the applications and benefits of using custom stainless steel equipment in medical facilities.
Benefits of Stainless Steel:
- Heat & Fire Resistance – Stainless steel is both heat and fire resistant. In the event of a device malfunction, stainless steel can prevent the spread of fire by adding an additional layer of protection.
- Clean & Easy to sanitize – As we have discussed in prior posts, stainless steel in non-porous. This amazing property doesn’t allow bacteria or other contagions to settle into the surface. This provides for easy disinfecting of surfaces, protecting staff as well as patients. Because stainless steel is durable and rust resistant, it can be used over and over. In many cases, cleaning is made simple by using disinfectant and a towel for cleaning. It can also be used in an autoclave for sterilizing. This is why you see many instruments made from stainless steel.
- Durable & Cost Effective – As stated above, stainless steel is extremely durable. This allows for equipment to be used repeatedly, without corrosion or rusting. Its durability also means that renovating and/or replacing equipment will be reduced.
- In many medical settings, chemicals are used that can corrode or rust certain pieces of equipment. This is not the case with stainless steel. Chromium is in the raw material of stainless steel, this property makes stainless steel rust-resistant. This not only allows for replacing less often, but also safer for patients – reducing the risk of infections.
